Early Literacy Partners Program

Reading Training

  • The Early Literacy Partners Program is a critical impact area within the Decade of Difference as there is strong evidence through research demonstrating that providing early intervention, especially in the area of reading and math, is critical as it correlates with academic success, high school graduation, post-secondary success, and workforce competence.
  •  The Decade of Difference is a ten year Community Initiative designed to prepare our youth to be contributing and productive members in our society, community, and economy.
  •  The Early Literacy Partners Program offers training, placement and support for individuals who volunteer to tutor children in reading and/or math throughout Humboldt County schools.
  •  Early Literacy Partner volunteers assist students who are struggling or reluctant in both reading and/or math. Reading volunteers work in grades TK-K-1st and math volunteers in grades 1st-2nd.
  •  Each volunteer commits to 2 hours per week of tutoring, working one-on-one with a total of 3 students twice a week.
  • Each volunteer is provided with training and lesson plans to help each student gain skills necessary to be more confident readers and have a greater understanding of math & numeracy. You can choose to attend one or both trainings.
  • Standard fingerprinting and background checks are required and will be covered through the program.
