“Brown Bag” lunchtime webinars with KQED: The PBS station in San Francisco has a new, online platform for educational media called PBS LearningMedia, which is free for every teacher in California. PBS LearningMedia has content for all K-12 subject areas that is made for classroom use and aligned with statewide content standards. In a three-part series, media educators from KQED will present a training on maximizing the potential of PBS LearningMedia for Arts Learning in visual, performing and digital arts. Explore open educational media resources that meet Visual Arts standards and help build media literacy and critical thinking skills in an engaging way that introduces real world creative professionals to your students. In this session, Kristin Farr, Arts Education Manager at KQED, will introduce specific videos, images and hands-on lessons about visual and digital art that are available in PBS Learning Media. In addition to demonstrating navigation of the platform, Kristin will also introduce thematic collections of media that address popular student interests such as animation, mobile/digital art, and drawing.
