HCOE held its first STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Mathematics) conference on 1/8-1/9/16. More than 250 educators, administrators, librarians, artists, makers, community and business members attended! Two keynote speakers, Dr. Gary Stager and Dale Dougherty, brought the Maker movement philosophy and activities to the forefront. There were 27 breakout sessions, led by 42 presenters and a Maker’s lab available to all. Attendees made, coded, drew, danced, tinkered, filmed, and spent 1-1/2 days learning. The event was catered by Fortuna High School Culinary class to rave reviews. HCOE has been regaled with stories of school sites making plans for Maker’s labs, Maker’s Faire and the like. The energy was infectious! Check out pics and tweets on Twitter at #HumSTEAM. Mark your calendars for next year’s STEAM conference 01/06–01/07/17.
