Leadership Academy: An Introduction to School Leadership and Administration – Special Education

Are you interested in learning more about the work that school administrators do? This series is designed to introduce teacher leaders, classified leaders and other interested personnel to an array of topics essential to educational leaders. Each session will be conducted by a local administrator, well-respected for his/her expertise on these topics. Fred VanVleck, Ed.D., Superintendent of Eureka City Schools and Cheryl Ingham, Director of Instructional Leadership for the Humboldt County Office of Education will be co-facilitators for the academy.
Each session will begin with a group discussion of one chapter of a book on leadership, Monday Morning Leadership. Guest speakers will follow with a brief overview of key elements related to their field of expertise. The emphasis will be aimed at actual on the job, day to day, application of these topics rather than on philosophical foundations. At the close of the evening, the group will discuss insights prompted by information from the speakers. The Leadership Academy will provide participants with an overview of school administration. It may be of interest to those aspiring to enter a
credential program, or those wondering if administration might match their goals, as well as those who may not see this as a career path but are simply interested in gaining a greater understanding of the responsibilities involved in leading a school community.
All sessions will run from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. This is a NO COST workshop
Space is limited and will be available on a first-come-first-served basis. The Leadership Academy is offered as a series. Participants should plan to attend all sessions; it is not possible to attend individual classes.
