Join us in this 7-part series as we read, study and implement the brain-based teaching framework outlined in Zaretta Hammonds’ book Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain: Promoting Authentic Engagement and Rigor Among Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Students.

This supported learning and implementation series is divided into two parts. We will begin with a book study for 4 sessions and conclude with working groups for 3 sessions. Participants will read the assigned chapters prior to the book study meeting. The facilitators will review key points, answer questions and facilitate small group discussions in grade bands. The working group sessions are spaces to plan your implementation for your classroom, share what worked, and think together about next steps. The working groups will be done primarily in grade bands. Cassandra Hayes, Mo Harper Desir and Micheal Gibson are the facilitators.

All meetings are on Thursdays. For book study sessions, please complete the reading prior to the meeting. Working group sessions are intended to be a space to share ideas, plan implementation, and think together.
