DAY 1 – Welcome & Ferndale Agricultural Tours (Optional Programming – no additional cost) Tuesday July 16 Ferndale Area – agricultural tours
12:00pm – 12:30pm Welcome and Introductions (Victorian Inn) Light snacks (provided)
12:30pm – 5:00pm Tours of technologically advanced dairy facilities with the Farm Bureau, Western Organic Dairy Producers Alliance, and Cattle Council (shuttle service provided)
•12:30pm – 1:30pm Coppini Family Dairy Farm, rotary milking parlor
•1:45pm – 2:45pm Brodt Family Dairy Farm, robotic milking parlor
•3:00pm – 3:30pm Jersey Scoops for afternoon snack, local micro creamery
•3:30pm – 4:00pm Stop at Eel River Valley vista point at Bear River Rancheria (Farm Bureau)
•4:15pm – 5:00pm Humboldt Auction Yard (Cattle Council)
- 5:00pm – 5:15pm Return to Victorian Inn
- 6:00pm – 7:30pm Dinner at Victorian Inn
DAY 2 – Culinary and Training Workshops Wednesday July 17 Ferndale Area – Hands-on Training and Education Session
- 8:30am – 9:15am Breakfast at Victorian Inn (shuttle to Ferndale High School)
- 9:30am – 12:00pm Alice Waters Institute demonstration and recipe development Ferndale High School •Intro to local, organic, regenerative procurement: the why and the how
•Hands-on culinary workshop
•Includes scaled, nutritionally compliant recipes featuring Rumiano dairy products and local, seasonal produce - BREAK
- 12:30pm – 1:30pm: Lunch (enjoy school lunch menu that the teams prepared)
•Review of in-cafeteria educational materials and posters - 1:30pm – 2:30pm: Local purchasing panel – Alice Waters Institute: Yael Cypers Kotick; North Coast Growers Association: Megan Kenney; Rumiano Cheese: LaKeasha Brown
- 2:30pm – 3:30pm: Technical Service Guidance for New Nutrition Standards – Humbolt County Office of Education: Roxanne Mellick and California Beef Council: Kori Dover
- 3:30pm – 4:00pm Funding opportunities and ideation session – California Department of Food and Agriculture Farm to School: Pamela Lee
•Review of state and national funding opportunities
•Current project sharing time future project ideation development - 4:15pm – 8:00pm Food Service Director and Farmer Gathering at Barn by Fernbridge
- 5:15pm – 6:15pm Social hour
- 6:15pm – 8:00pm Dinner (provided) (shuttle service provided back to Ferndale starting at 7:00pm)
DAY 3 – Tour Crescent City Rumiano Cheese Plant (Optional Programing – no additional cost)
Thursday July 18 Crescent City – Cheese Factory Tour
- 7:30am – Breakfast at Papa Joe’s
- 8:30am – Load shuttles to Crescent City
- 8:45am – 10:45am Travel to Rumiano
- 10:45am Arrival to Rumiano Cheese plant
- 11:00am – 12:30pm Tour with Joby Rumiano
- 12:30pm Shuttle to SeaQuake Brewing
- 12:40pm Lunch at SeaQuake Brewing
- 1:45pm Return to Ferndale
- 3:45pm Arrive back in Ferndale
