SLP Webinar Series

The Secondary Literacy Partnership (SLP) is excited to announce the next pair of webinars in its series, Implementing the Common Core State Standards: Classroom Connections.

On October 22nd, WestEd’s Rachel Lagunoff and Montebello USD teacher Gabriela Orozco Gonzalez, a member of the CTA Leadership Cohort, will be presenting, “Beyond the Test: ELA Performance Tasks on Smarter Balanced Assessments and Implications for Classroom Instruction.” This webinar will cover designing and implementing classroom instruction and assessment that supports and challenges students.

On November 12th, SLP leadership team member Ellen Gervase, Collaboration Coach in Downey USD, and WestEd’s Silvia DeRuvo will present, “Special Needs Students and the California Common Core State Standards.” They will share how the CCSS actually provide greater opportunities for student learning and achievement of grade level skills and how special education practices create the foundation for CCSS-aligned special education.

All SLP webinars take place on “Webinar Wednesdays” from 3:30 to 5:00 pm. Pacific Time. Register and participate on your own or with your department or grade-level team. You can also register for spring webinars, listed on WestEd’s SchoolsMovingUp’s home page. NEW! You can now access audio either via the phone or streamed over your computer.

The first webinar in the series, “A Close Encounter–through the Writers’ Eyes–of the New ELA/ELD Framework,” is available as an archive. One of the many teachers who participated in this webinar stated, “[it] deepened my understanding. It gave me a starting place for reading the long document, and it was great to hear from the authors.”
