Workshop Description:
The HCOE Humboldt School Garden Collective invites local school garden educators and advocates to attend a Life Lab Growing Classroom workshop! Participants will learn to use a garden to breathe life into standards-based lessons, promote ecological literacy, encourage healthy eating, and support students’ social development. Using Life Lab’s Growing
Classroom activity guide for grades K-6, participants in this hands-on workshop will experience tried-and-true garden-based lessons linked to Common Core Language Arts, Math, and Next Generation Science Standards; practice basic gardening techniques; and develop management strategies for a school garden program.

We recommend that you bring the following to the workshop:
– Comfortable clothes for working indoors and outdoors
– Comfortable, close-toed shoes
– A hat, sunscreen and water bottle

Facilitator:
Our workshop will be facilitated by Regi Jones. Regi grew up and attended university in North Carolina. Their passion for education began while working with groups of Burmese youth in the summer. That launched me into moving to New Orleans to dive into my curiosity about the connection between food and education, primarily focusing on how food can be used to connect people across cultures and how what we eat is shaped by our own ancestral connections. When I’m not thinking about how to draw young people into those conversations, I love any outdoor activity, trying new foods, and watching That’s So Raven.
