Teachers of older struggling readers need research-based tools and strategies for addressing reading deficiencies, not just scaffolds as “band-aids”. It’s time to get reading right in the secondary ELA
classroom. Join us to learn how the science of reading can be implemented in the secondary ELA classroom. Learn best practices for assessing and addressing specific reading issues. Learn how students master the code, develop fluency, and build content vocabulary knowledge in order to become skilled comprehenders of any text.
Getting Reading Right in the Secondary ELA Classroom equips teachers with the knowledge and tools for providing effective Tier 1 and Tier 2 reading instruction. Monthly drill-downs focus on the Simple View of Reading and the strands of Scarborough’s Reading Rope to develop an understanding of foundational reading skills and the critical role they play in the secondary ELA classroom.
Getting Reading Right equips teachers with:
- an understanding of the science of reading as it pertains to secondary ELA
- tools for assessing specific reading issues
- best practices for “backfilling” reading gaps
- strategies for helping students master the code, develop fluency, and build content vocabulary knowledge
