HCOE Environmental Education

HCOE’s Advancing Learning Landscapes project aims to foster Environmental Literacy in K-12 students across Humboldt County through job embedded professional development.

Since we are all spending so much time at home this year, this series of monthly PD webinars for teachers combine presentations from expert scientists conducting research in our own “backyards” with grade level teaching resources to help students better understand WHERE they live — to Deepen their Sense of Place.

We hope you can join us for one or all sessions in this 8-part series. All webinars will be recorded for later viewing. Please contact Allison Poklemba at abp5@humboldt.edu with questions.

Time: 3:30-4:00

Deepening Sense of Place: Wildfire

Our visiting scientist for this session is Lenya Quinn-Davidson. Lenya is a core staff person for the Fire Adapted Communities Learning Network where she coordinates their prescribed fire training exchange (TREX) program, and she is the Director of the Northern California Prescribed Fire Council. Her interests include cultural burning, forest/ecosystem management, watershed protection/management, and wildfire risk assessment.
