Counting on Community Symposium 2023
May 19th & 20th, 2023
Interactive workshops with locally and nationally recognized leaders in family service fields
This Symposium will engage family service providers, health care professionals, early childhood educators, social workers, and community members to focus on how we work together to build belonging for all of Humboldt’s children and families through storytelling, movement, and learning.
As a community, we have experienced an abundance of grief and loss over the last few years. For many, this grief has been compounded and deeply isolating. In order to collectively move toward a place of healing and hope, it is necessary to feel seen, heard, and held by our community. When we cultivate connections where we are safe to share our stories and listen to the stories of others, we build belonging. Through these connections, we can envision a future where our children belong and can thrive in community.
This two-day conference is meant to bring together family service providers from various backgrounds to collectively imagine a future where all of Humboldt’s children and families belong and can thrive in community. We have welcomed presenters who are locally and nationally recognized for their expertise in the fields of trauma-responsive care, early childhood education, social work, and community organizing to share their stories as we learn and move together!
The presenter list includes Chandra Gosh Ippen, Ashley Jefferson, Ijumaa Jordan, Brianna Bragg, Stephanie Roberson, Jovonne Dempster, Beth Heavelin, Shoshanna, and Mo Harper-Desir, among others.
We have scholarships available to those who need support covering the registration fees, so please do not hesitate to reach out to us at first5humboldt@co.humboldt.ca.us if you’d like to receive scholarship support to attend.
