Redwood Writing Project
Invitational Summer Institute 2013
An Exciting Professional Development Opportunity by and for Teachers!
The Redwood Writing Project (RWP), a California Subject Matter Project and an affiliate of the National Writing Project, is a professional development program of, by, and for teachers at all grade levels and in all disciplines. RWP is dedicated to improving writing in grades Pre-K through 16. We encourage diverse approaches to teaching writing: all Writing Project sites are collaboration among successful practicing teachers who have been designated Teacher-Consultants (TCs) after having completed an Invitational Summer Institute (ISI)
In addition to a teaching-of-writing topic of their choosing, 2013 ISI fellows will conduct inquiry into Common Core State Standards, Assessment, and Technology.
- ISI participants read and discuss research on the teaching of writing and how it may be applied to subjects across the curriculum
- Explore the ways in which state- and district-mandated curricula can be successfully integrated into a dynamic learning environment
- Work in response groups and share writing
- Explore relationships among writing, thinking, and learning; investigate a teaching practice and develop a demonstration workshop
- Develop professional leadership roles as practitioners, researchers, writers, and in-service providers.
A stipend of $700 ($500 summer; $200 follow-up) is awarded upon completion of the institute.
Extended Education Units are available: 6.5 units for the invitational summer institute + 1.5 units with the completion of the follow-up activities.
