The five protective factors at the foundation of Strengthening Families are characteristics that have been shown to make positive outcomes more likely for young children and their families, and to reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect. This training will prepare participants to use tools and materials developed by the Children’s Trust Fund Alliance to strengthen families, build resilience, and support child development, while helping to reduce the likelihood of child abuse and neglect.

By the end of this training, participants will:

  • Understand the concept of resilience and its role in supporting families.
  • Learn how resilience buffers stress for children, parents, and professionals.
  • Explore actions and strategies to promote resilience in their work.
  • Build awareness of how systems can be structured to support resilience.
  • Commit to everyday practices that build protective factors in families.

Meeting Agenda:

  • Welcome & Program Overview, 2 hrs – Overview of the Protective Factors framework, training expectations, materials distribution
  • Parent Resilience Factor, 2 hrs – Hands-on activities, discussion, and strategy development for supporting resilience
  • Social Emotional Development for Families, 1 hr – Practical tools and training for emotional development in family settings
