Why incorporate a mindfulness practice into your week? This full day interactive workshop will begin with a thought provoking presentation that explores the benefits of mindfulness practices for students, staff and teachers. This will include a student friendly tutorial on brain anatomy and the neurological impact of mindfulness tools. Participants will develop a concise definition of mindfulness, understand the elements of an effective practice, and experience specific breathing, movement and awareness tools that can be offered to students and faculty. Since classrooms often have limited open space, participants will learn how to teach a 5 minute movement routine that can be done sitting even at crowded desks.
During the afternoon session, teachers will meet in grade level or site based groups to develop a personalized plan to implement a Mindfulness routine in their weekly schedule. Each participant will choose one tool to offer to their focus group. This will be an opportunity to find a practice that works for you and explore offering it to others in a supportive environment. By the end of the workshop, participants will have full access to an online mindfulness curriculum, a list of further resources to explore, and a specific plan to implement a weekly mindfulness practice at the start of the school year.
