The Next Gen Collaborative

Guided by local science educators Rebecca Baugh (Eureka High) and August Deshais (Ridgewood Elementary), designated site representatives will explore the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) as adopted for California schools.

Participants will receive resources to share with colleagues at their school sites to help build capacity and readiness to implement Next Generation Science Standards prior to new assessments and new instructional materials (anticipated 2018).

Sessions will be held Wednesday afternoons January 27, February 24, March 30 and April 27 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm at the Sequoia Conference Center at HCOE.

.5 unit credit from HSU Extended Education pending approval

January 2016 /Session 1: What Makes the NGSS Different (and why that’s a good thing!)

February 2016 /Session 2: Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCI’s) – Ideas at the Core of Each Discipline

March 2016 /Session 3: Science and Engineering Practices – the Big Picture

April 2016 /Session 4: Crosscutting Concepts – Making Connections across the Sciences
